Welcome to the Swing Time Big Band site.

About

The Swing Time Big Band based in Bloomington, Indiana is a standard 17-piece jazz ensemble.  Formed in 2015 by band leader Jerry Jerome, the ensemble is now led by Janis Stockhouse, former Director of Bands at Bloomington High School North.

The group rehearses twice per month and performs at a variety of venues in the Bloomington area.  Their repertoire includes the music of Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Sammy Nestico, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, and many others.

Currently, all positions are filled, however, we welcome interested musicians and we do have a need for players on all instruments to be added to our “sub list.”  Please contact Janis Stockhouse for more details.  jazz.stockhouse@gmail.com

Jazz Improv

In Full Swing

A jazz combo experience for adults!

Do you play a musical instrument?  Do you like jazz? Do you have any experience in jazz improv?  Or have you always wanted to learn how to improvise?  If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then keep reading….

Bloomington music educator, Janis Stockhouse, plans to launch a jazz combo program for musicians age 18 to 81, and older!  Those who express interest (any instrument, any level) will be organized into small groups by ability & background.  No Previous Jazz Experience is required, but musicians will need to be proficient at playing their instruments.

Once the combos have been established, these groups will meet bi-monthly to play jazz standards and to learn how to improvise.  To find out more information and ask questions, contact Janis before September 15, 2019:  jazz.stockhouse@gmail.com
